One of my new favorite brunch spots in NYC is Cafe Gitane at the Jane Hotel. First of all I love the location right off the west side highway, and south of the highline, it is perfect for those gorgeous lazy sunday afternoons when you out and about soaking in the NYC’s meatpacking district. The vibe at Cafe Gitane is french boho chic with North African influences as seen with the Moroccan couscous. The first thing that I was thrilled to see on the menu was Watermelon Juice, it reminded me of summer in Greece, and tasted just as fresh. They also had my favorite tea from Les Palais de Thes, a sumptuous green tea with cherry blossoms.
To start I had to try the Avocado Toast as it is one of the most recommended items on the menu, rich avocado is spread across crunchy multigrain toast, finished with a squeeze of lemon, drizzle of olive oil and a dash of hot pepper. Delish!
The deliciousness continued with the Orange Blossom waffle & fresh fruit, served with a side of real maple syrup.
Cafe Gitane transports you out of New York and into an exotic cafe somewhere tropical with it’s french boho vibe and unique menu. I highly recommend a visit for brunch or lunch on your next visit to NYC!
PS. The Mott street location is an excellent source of entertainment as the people watching is top notch–bring your Tom Ford Sunglasses!
